Is there any way to hasten the ripening of a fresh Pineapple?

I'm pretty sure, like with other fruit, placing it in a closed paper bag on the counter will help it ripen more quickly. This works because fruit outgas some kind of gas (methane?) as they ripen, and by trapping that gas it accelerates the process. That's why those containers/wraps that let the methane escape keep fruit fresh longer - so the converse should work to help ripen more quickly.
