Do I really need an inflatable pillow to winterize my pool?

Wanna know if I can do without. I never seem to get the damn thing in the middle of my 24 foot pool, always lurches off to the side somewhere. Also, my pool is flush with my deck and the pillow just allows for wind to get through undernerneath and blow the cover up, seems no matter how securely I tie it down!
